May his memory be a blessing.

As for Elizabeth May, thanks for telling us upfront that you get “marching orders.” For shame.

It is difficult to understand the rampant antisemitism coming from the left, and why the left supports Islamist zealotry. Perhaps they think that Islamist zealotry is caused by Western imperialism and is some type of resistance to it. An ideology of the oppressed, a strange version of leftist politics. America (the Great Satan) and Israel are seen as the targets of hatred from both the left and the Islamists. My enemy’s enemy is my friend.

Let’s be clear. Islamist terror is not a battle of the poor against the rich, or the Third World against the West, or oppressed people against capitalism. It is not a justifiable response that can be intellectually or ethically supported by leftist progressives. The main target of Islamist terror is democratic opposition in their own countries. Opposition to imposing a theocracy that controls all aspects of society in the name of Islam. Look at Iran. When fundamentalists come to power, they silence people; they murder dissidents, and they oppress women and minorities. It never ends well.

Well Terry Glavin makes us aware that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues to divide many people, it would appear. The Green Party has been afflicted, the Conservative Party as well. And we can throw the Liberals into it as well. No doubt we can haul the NDP into the fray. And let’s admit the holocaust was real and so is the horrible situation of those living in Palestine. And the tragic death of a 16 year old Canadian at a bus stop in Israel amplifies the senselessness of the situation. No doubt there are Israelis and Palestinians and members of all political stripes who mourn the death of this young man as well as all those who have died because of our inability to resolve conflict peacefully. We can hope that Nazih Khatatba is aware of that, too. We are either peacemakers or conflict creators.
