Victoria Day Weekend roundup: What's the real story behind that "Huawei decision"? What the heck have I been up to all this time? A foreboding: What's up next is going to be. . . crazytimes.
Too right, the Yanks are not idiots…but we are. What kind of silly game is our government playing regarding Huawei? Our Minister says it’s not a race so are we to believe our government was so deep into strategic planning that it took this long to confirm a no-brainer decision. Nobody is buying it and least not the Yanks. I suspect the US said they were going to issue the Cybersecurity Executive Order and if we wanted to be included in the umbrella of safety then get your head in the game…and that’s when our government decided not to walk off a cliff.
I signed up on day one so you could have an opportunity to make the legacy media brands uncomfortable. Bring it on. I'll buy a second subscription if I have to. You're worth it.
Question. Why did it take three years for Canada to ban Huawei from our 5G networks? Was it to provide time for Laurentian Liberals to divest their holdings in various Chinese companies? Asking for a friend. BTW, what is Jean Chretien up to these days? I recall an article from 2019 written by a well-respected writer at Macleans, "Chrétien’s 15 years of service to Chinese and Canadian corporations as a lobbyist, adviser, deal-maker, consultant and errand runner began officially only days after he resigned as Prime Minister after a decade in office in 2003."
Justin commented that the decision took so long, "because we wanted to get it right", thereby implying that the rest of the Five Eyes, by banning Huawei much earlier, got it wrong.
<<It’s a hell of a thing. It’s written in plain English.>> Imagine. Now if they all (on both sides of this border) could answer questions in plain English (dare I say it, using more Anglo-Saxon words than Latinate). During JT's early days as PM, I remember Susan Delacourt saying that he had become good at speaking and saying nothing, and he should cut it out. (I paraphrase.) He did not heed her advice.
Porridge indeed. Champagne porridge.
More like nails on a chalk board. I just can't stand the guy. His lips are moving ... he's lying. Period.
Oh man…I won’t be able to sleep now. You never fail to raise my curiosity. Hope you had a great ride!
Short one. Just headed out again, tempting the weather.
And that is part of the excitement….beautiful!

Welcome back! We missed you!

Welcome back Terry. Looking forward to the dropping of the next shoe.
My wife and I have twin subscriptions in the interests of being informed and putting the Glavin balance sheet in the black.
These substack subscriptions are a great innovation. People should and will pay for Journalism.
I wondered what you were up to! I was hoping you were out on the open road enjoying life for a minute.
Thank you for all the hard work you do.
Godspeed.
