Believe what you want about Afghanistan, but the chances are good that what you believe is based entirely on buncombe. That's not your fault. But spare me the lies.
You're not "bleak". You're awake and honest. Your summary of our current "leader" (cough, cough, gag) is spot on. The failure of democracy is even more upsetting when it manifests itself here.
For a long time to come, August will bring the painful memory of the shameful abandonment of the Afghani people to the Taliban savages. I've yet to speak with anyone who can rationalize the way the US withdrew. It defies understanding.
There's been a lot of decisions by Biden that benefit other countries, particularly China. Your suspicions are well-grounded. I read the CCP immediately went into Afghanistan to sign agreements for mining rare earth metals. Undoubtedly they made a deal for at least some of the advanced US weaponry and armaments which they'll reverse engineer. I can't believe the Biden administration, including the DOD, is that stupid. The only logic is, as you say, the Biden admin made a deal to supply them.
'Or just think about Canada’s “domestic” concerns that are now at crisis levels: an entire working-class generation pushed to the precipice of destitution and homelessness by “post-national” policies that rely on the ever-greater fluidity of international capital, mass immigration and an official, state-manipulated contempt of Canada’s democratic heritage' -----brilliant
I love the fire in your gut that exploded into this article. I didn’t see it as bleakness or miseryguts at all, but rather passion and fairly raw emotion. I especially enjoyed your excellent assessment of what I refer to as the dangerous, useless, virtue-signalling, weasel PM and his “team”. Welcome back. Be well and stay safe.
I couldn't agree more Terry. The so-called "developed", "democratic" world has abandoned all semblance of sanity and integrity. Weak men (if I may be so sexist) cause hard times, and they don't come much weaker than Biden, Trudeau, Macron, Sunak, et. al. Platitudes, empty rhetoric, and idiocy are the currency of the social media age, and the dumbing down of generations has borne fruit. While it is not hopeless, it will most definitely take a concerted effort on the part of those still refusing to succumb to overt malfeasance and stupidity to right this ship.
"As far back as December 2011, Biden was content to explain: “Look, the Taliban, per se, is not our enemy. That’s critical": Terry, please don't give the idea, that "Slow Joe" has any cognitive ability left, any credence at all. He should be nodding off in some geriatric ward.
The corruption came first; the cognitive decline is just an auspicious convenience for those who are manipulating him -- but they keep it quiet. I don't believe he has ANYTHING LEFT UPSTAIRS to be manipulative with, under his own steam.
I have been a student of history most of my life and am forced to conclude that Bertrand Russell was right; ' Man will never know peace until his need for 'religion' is overcome.' The extremes of belief drives humans to horrible excesses; Christian fundamentalism, communism, Muslim darkness, tribalism and unfettered materialism. Man's only escape from these human forces can only come through education.
Sometimes, the readers need reality - no matter how bleak - to know what actually happened as opposed to what governments would like us to think happened.
Glad you are refreshed and ready to go. We need accountability. Our MSM is too worried about collecting government grants and using laws to enrich their PE owners. As opposed to our newsrooms holding our elected officials accountable.
Only way I could do my part is subscribe to reporters like you.
I haven’t felt optimistic for years. It’s fairly difficult when the whole world doesn’t think you are human. And human society no longer thinks women are human and maybe you all never did. Not much to feel great about tbh. 🙃🤐

It’s almost as though Biden made a side deal to supply those arms to someone else.

Not a nice thought, but if it walks like a duck.....

Thanks Penny.
Terry, an optimist is someone who hasn't been given all of the facts yet. Welcome to the land of the informed!

Impossible to be “up” in Canada that is held hostage to a narcissist and a Khalistani sympathizer
Glad you are back but damn, I need a stiff gin and tonic. Ride safe.
Am I glad you’re back or what!!! Those incompetent Liberals are getting worse!!!
Canada abandoned Afghanistan long ago.

Don’t allow cognitive decline to excuse a lifetime of corruption
The corruption came first; the cognitive decline is just an auspicious convenience for those who are manipulating him -- but they keep it quiet. I don't believe he has ANYTHING LEFT UPSTAIRS to be manipulative with, under his own steam.
Our own narcissistic imbecile is being manipulated as well. The emphasis on persona masks the clever people who are pulling those strings.

If only this piece was the national press... But no one reads any more.
PITY
Quite a few people read this:
https://nationalpost.com/opinion/the-taliban-didnt-win-the-west-gave-up
But you're right. An unsurprising absence of any real journalism on this.
I read the NP article Terry cited in the NP online, and really appreciated it. As I recall the comment section got rather ugly.
Very, Very ugly. Some really horrible people out there.
