In a 1959 interview with BBC, Bertrand Russell was asked to outline the advice he would give to future generations.

“When you are studying any matter or considering any philosophy, ask yourself only what are the facts and what is the truth that the facts bear out. Never let yourself be diverted either by what you wish to believe, or by what you think would have beneficent social effects if it were believed. But look only, and solely, at what are the facts.”

Facts are like plan drawings for say a dory, without them, you get a bizarre bottomless tub, or worse

Thanks man. I am SO tired. But yes, will do. I sure wish some of the free-subs would upgrade though. I don't mean to be greedy and I'd probably do this for free if I had to but it's like minimum wage with this stuff.

I subscribed last week, I am new to substack. I see it's great potential. I agree, the labourer is worthy of his wages.

Whoa, and here I thought you were having a wonderful day alone with the fishes. At the rate you're going, and with the enemies you're seemingly making, you'll be found swimming with them. Kidding of course. I'm looking forward to tomorrows installment of 'How can Canada possibly get any more fucked up than it already is?' Cheers

I know there is a lot of important and serious information here but I gotta tell you... that comment, "not Ireland, the other one" , really made me laugh.

Great article, Terry. There's a depressing number of attention-seekers that thrive on being in the centre of a moral panic. They stitch together a few known facts and then pile on the bullshit. When challenged, out comes the denier label.

Your Year of the Graves piece drives them insane. You present facts and because they can't argue the facts, they go after you. As Margaret Thatcher said, when they personally attack you, you know you've won.

Love your work - straight forward, no nonsense writing. I too signed up and it's money well spent IMHO. I listened to both versions of your Canadaland interview (unedited first) and I came to the same conclusion as Blair King; Brown made himself out to be calm and reasonable where you responded with anger and aggression. My first and most likely the last time I will sign in to listen to his podcast. Can't help feeling there is a shit storm on the horizon and it's not going to be pretty.

Critical work and very well done Terry. I'm a new paid subscriber but a long time reader of your columns. Thank you for your work.

Re: enemies. You know what they say about being over the target etc. PS take a day off for a good long bike ride pretty soon

I may even get a ride in tomorrow. Gotta replace a snapped throttle cable on the Bonnie, which involves taking off the gas tank and keeping tension on the couplings to the carbs so things don't go wonky at the same time that you're fitting the new cable ends back in. Adjusting the old Amal carbs on the Bonneville is like analog calculations for a moonshot. It's a very delicate operation. Actually looking forward to it. Great hearing from ye, Tom.
