This from a government that Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada wants to embrace and further welcome into Canada as a close partner. Remember that Jimmy Lai's only crime was to champion a free press and support freedom of expression, a fundamental value of Canada.

Sorry, but the claim that “Trump has caused us to do this” is an appalling abdication of responsibility. The CCP is a criminal organization. Jimmy Lai is a free speech hero. Carney should be demanding his release instead of cozying up to these thugs

If anything this is Carney's fault not Trumps. Carney invited China to set up their businesses example Mines in Canada this is all on the PM of Canada. I sure do not see them shutting down all the Chinese United Front Police stations in Canada which Carney should be doing. Now Carney wants them to work with the RCMP...this stinks!! Some how Carney is intertwined with Xi & his communist China...Money is the root of this evil!! My thoughts only.

And this is the regime the Liberal Party of Canada has had a decades-long crush on. They have no shame.

Utterly despicable. How does Carney and team sleep at night? Is freedom of the press incompatible with the Federal Liberal Machine (FLM)?

Fingers crossed a Catholic reporter asks our Catholic PM why Catholic Lai is denied Sacraments by our new auto BFFS in Beijing.

If anyone expects Carney to comment about this you’ll be waiting a long time. How our government has any involvement with a despicable country like this is beyond me.

Terry, thank you from the bottom of my heart for publicizing the sad fate of this courageous man. This is EXACTLY WHY we must get our commie-loving PM and his rotten govt out of office.

Difficult to 'like' this post, but thank you for shining a light on this ongoing atrocity.

Coming soon to Chinada?

And this is there regime Carney is now in bed with! Unconscionable!

I am writing a letter to my Liberal MP Peter Fragiskatos.

I'll be writing my MP as well, Liberal member for Spadina-Harbourfront, Chi Nguyen.

Good thing Carney is cozying up nice and tight to China. I'm sure they could care less what anyone thinks of their draconian measures.

So terribly and incredibly sad to hear of such injustice.

This is the letter I sent to my Liberal MP Peter Fragiskatos. London Centre.

“Dear MP Fragiskatos;

I hope this finds you well.

My name is Donald Ashman and I am a constituent of London Centre.

It is with great concern that I must express my emphatic disgust with the conviction and sentencing of Hong Kong journalist Jimmy Lai by the Chinese authorities.

He has been sentenced to 20 additional years, this in addition to the 1867 days he has already served. He will surely die in prison.

Mr. Lai is a champion of press freedom, and a hero for persecuted journalists around the world.

As you know, the Liberal Government has entered into an arrangement that may be described as cooperative agreement with respect to security, law enforcement, crime, and scientific information exchange with the Chinese authorities.

Given the egregious development with respect to Mr. Lai, how can you continue to support a Government that plans to collaborate with a rogue, sadistic, lawless, torture-state?

I implore you to withdraw your support for the Liberal Government in order to take a stance for freedom of the press.

If you are unable, or unwilling, to execute that decision, please consider making a speech in the House denouncing the actions of the Chinese Communist Party, on behalf of Jimmy Lai, the Chinese diaspora, London Centre, and press freedom.

Thank you for your consideration of this matter.

Sincerely,

Donald J. Ashman”

This is unbelievable from a country our Prime Minister Mark Carney wants to make deals with. Canada is in such a bad state right now.

This is damning rationale against our suddenly free trading dance with China. Trump has caused us to do this. Will be interesting to see what if anything Carney and team say about this.

William Edward Henry's avatar

Mr. Trump did not cause the Liberal Party of Canada to embrace the Chinese Communist Party. That has been ongoing since well before the current President was elected.

John Dowell's avatar

It has been going on since Trudeau 1.0

Rod Drown's avatar

Thank you for showing Grube the errors of his ways.

Grube's avatar

Agreed. Liberals were backing away concurring with Biden’s take on the overwhelming result of allowing Chinese EVs into Canada. With Trump flashing the tariff red lights the Liberals went back to China. I am worried about that. Perhaps the Libs under Carney know more about what they are doing than under JT — which was a disaster. I bloody well hope so. (And no Rod I am not making an error.)

Trump hasn't cause us to do anything, the liberals are doing this all on their own and are dragging the rest of us with them.

Call your MP, call the PMO? Seriously, Terry? You might as well call Xi or the United Front as call any LPC MP or Carney’s office. They’ve already shown which side they’re on, and it’s not Jimmy Lai’s.
