Grow up. Hunker down. Dig in. Rebuild.
Elbows up. Chin up. Mount up. If we fight, we'll win this thing.
Rough-draft dispatches from the front lines
At some point I’m going to have to get some sleep, but as for where this weekend’s usual newsletter went, here’s what I’m working on:
From the folly of serving as an American forward operating base, a new Europe arises from the ashes of the old;
In a series of barely-noticed operations, the Trump-Musk wrecking crew has deliberately and methodically sabotaged journalists who target money-launderers and kleptocrats around the world;
A look at the strange afterlife of Governor Trudeau’s Team China (in which I offer some long overdue praise for Chrystia Freeland).
By the time you read this, Canada’s new prime minister is expected to be an unelected banker chosen in a chaotic Liberal Party coronation rigmarole that invited the recruitment of 14-year-olds. Try explaining that to Americans, most of whom don’t even know Canada is a constitutional monarchy.
Nobody even knows how Mark Carney intends to defend Canada from Trump’s trade-war assaults, or whether he’ll just fold and settle for some corporate-class capitulation along the lines of his last major act with Brookfield Asset Management - moving head office to the United States, and then lying about it.
Curious to know how the Security Intelligence Threats to Elections Task Force is going to deal with an anticipated Trump-Musk monkeywrenching of Canada’s impending federal election? Me too.
Stay tuned.
I fully expect another Covid era style emergency to counter Trump’s actions. Lots of money spent, lots of empathy about workers caught in the crossfire, and lots of justification to ban social media platforms and further narrowing the range of opinions for Canadians to save our democracy. Or we could actually get an election so that would be nice.
Worried about Trump? how about the CCP and the liberals?
